An Answer to My Prayer
As I was reading 3 Nephi 1 this week, I had a very special
experience. I was having a particularly
hard day and it just seemed like nothing was getting better. Before I began to
read my scriptures, I said a prayer. I asked Heavenly Father to bring me
comfort through the scriptures. I started to read and I found this set of scriptures:
10 Now it came to pass that when
Nephi, the son of Nephi, saw this wickedness of his people, his heart was
exceedingly sorrowful.
11 And it came to pass that he went out and
bowed himself down upon the earth, and cried mightily to his God in
behalf of his people, yea, those who were about to be destroyed because of
their faith in the tradition of their fathers.
12 And it came to pass that he cried mightily
unto the Lord all that day; and behold, the voice of the Lord came unto him,
saying:
13 Lift up your head and be of good cheer;
for behold, the time is at hand, and on this night shall the sign be given, and
on the morrow come I into the world, to show unto the world that I will fulfill
all that which I have caused to be spoken by the mouth of my holy prophets.
When I read verse 13, I knew this
was an answer to my prayer. Like He answered Nephi’s prayer, He answers every
single one of our prayers today as well. Every single person is able to speak
to our Heavenly Father through prayer. He not only listens but He responds. It
may be through a scripture or through a friend. It is different for each person
and each situation but I know it is real. I know our Father in Heaven knows
what we are going through. He can help us and He is more than willing to. We
are His children and He loves us more than we can comprehend.
There has been so many times
where I have felt as if I was going to fall apart and not once did I think to
pray but these scriptures and this experience have been a reminder to me of the
miracles that prayer brings into my life. The answers don’t usually come right
away and my trials do not just disappear but through my prayers and my faith, I
find comfort. I do not know how everything will turn out in the future or what trials
I will face down the road but I do know it will work out in the end if I continue
to be faithful. This is the power and beauty of prayers and faith. For now, I have
just decided to lift up my head and be of good cheer like God told Nephi to do
in verse 13. Yes I do have trials and yes they will not be going away anytime
soon but there are so many reasons to be joyful. We have a Father in Heaven who
loves us and a Savior, Jesus Christ who is there for us no matter what. Through
them we can find joy and peace in our lives during trials and triumphs. They
are truly the reason to lift up our heads and be of good cheer.
