My Testimony of the Book of Mormon

Image
My dearest friends, Many people are still not exactly sure why I am serving a mission or what I will be doing. For me, a mission is the opportunity to share and teach about the light that Jesus Christ offers to everyone. We all have the opportunity to return to live with Him and our Father in Heaven again. As a missionary, we teach people about how this possible. We teach them about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the joy it can bring into their lives. We teach from the Bible and the Book of Mormon and from the words of Latter-day Prophets. We teach by the spirit and through faithful prayer and preparation. It is hard work but it is work that is meaningful and of eternal significance. Yet, in order to be successful in doing this, missionaries need a testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel for themselves .I would like to share my testimony specifically on the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. When I was 14 years old, I attended a church camp, EFY, for a week. We were challeng...

I am Going to Be a Missionary!

21 Behold, I say unto you that whoso believeth in Christ, doubting nothing, whatsoever he shall ask the Father in the name of Christ it shall be granted him; and this promise is unto all, even unto the ends of the earth. 22 For behold, thus said Jesus Christ, the Son of God, unto his disciples who should tarry, yea, and also to all his disciples, in the hearing of the multitude: Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature; About two months ago, I was really struggling with accepting the fact that I would be serving a mission. I had so many fears and “what ifs” running through my mind. It was then I decided to say a prayer and ask my Father in Heaven for comfort. It was extremely late and I felt completely exhausted so I just went to read a few scriptures before bed. As I flipped open the Book of Mormon, this scripture is the first one I looked at. It is so simple and sweet but it was exactly what I needed to read. The purpose of my mission is not to focu...

Trusting in the Lord

Lately, I have been having a lot of fears. I have been worried about my mission and whether or not I am ready. I have been worrying about what will happen when I come home. Everything has just been building up in my mind.  Then I came across this scripture in Mormon 5:23. 23 Know ye not that ye are in the hands of God? Know ye not that he hath all power, and at his great command the earth shall be rolled together as a scroll? Then I realized that I am the Daughter of an all-knowing God. He knows everything about me and He knows what is best for me. He has already assured me that going on a mission is the right choice and I just need to trust in Him. As I have been going over the many options in my future, I have begun to put the greatest amount of trust in God than I ever have in my entire life. It has made so much of a difference. Instead of worrying and being sad, I am happy and enjoying every moment that I have. Through prayer and reading the scriptures, I felt the love an...

An Answer to My Prayer

As I was reading 3 Nephi 1 this week, I had a very special experience.  I was having a particularly hard day and it just seemed like nothing was getting better. Before I began to read my scriptures, I said a prayer. I asked Heavenly Father to bring me comfort through the scriptures. I started to read and I found this set of scriptures: 10 Now it came to pass that when Nephi, the son of Nephi, saw this wickedness of his people, his heart was exceedingly sorrowful.  11 And it came to pass that he went out and bowed himself down upon the earth, and cried mightily to his God in behalf of his people, yea, those who were about to be destroyed because of their faith in the tradition of their fathers.  12 And it came to pass that he cried mightily unto the Lord all that day; and behold, the voice of the Lord came unto him, saying:  13 Lift up your head and be of good cheer ; for behold, the time is at hand, and on this night shall the sign be given, and on the m...

Helaman 6: 26-30

Lately as I have been studying my scriptures, I have made it a habit to pray before I begin my scripture study and ask the Lord to help find the things that I need to learn at this time. I have noticed a great difference in what I am learning as I have done this. When we go to the Lord with a willing heart, He in return will be more willing to help us as we strive to learn more in order to become like Him. Through this new pattern of scripture study, I was able to receive a new insight in Helaman 6. This chapter is discussing the wickedness of the Gadianton robbers and the reasoning behind their wickedness. Verse 26 to 30 (below) clearly states that Satan is the cause of their wickedness. 26 Now behold, those secret oaths and covenants did not come forth unto Gadianton from the records which were delivered unto Helaman; but behold, they were put into the heart of Gadianton by that same being who did entice our first parents to partake of the forbidden fruit— 27 Yea, that same...

Don't let a moment of service pass by!

Image
For me, service has always been a part of my life. My mother has always taught me the importance of helping others and truly loving and caring for them. Yet, in my life there are so many opportunities I have to serve that I pass up. This scripture in Alma 60: 7-9 has caused me to reflect upon this concept even more. Alma 60: 7-9 7 Can you think to sit upon your thrones in a state of thoughtless stupor, while your enemies are spreading the work of death around you? Yea, while they are murdering thousands of your brethren—  8 Yea, even they who have looked up to you for protection, yea, have placed you in a situation that ye might have succored them, yea, ye might have sent armies unto them, to have strengthened them, and have saved thousands of them from falling by the sword.  9 But behold, this is not all—ye have withheld your provisions from them, insomuch that many have fought and bled out their lives because of their great desires which they had for the welfa...

GUATEMALA!

Image
On January 25th, 2013, I received my mission call in the mail. My little sister had just flown in for an interview and she was able to be there when I went to the mailbox. We were jumping up and down and screaming. It seemed almost unreal. Then at 7:30 with a group of friends, I opened my call.  I am hereby called to serve as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Guatemala Retalhuleu mission! I report to the Guatemala MTC on June 12th, 2013 and I will be preaching the gospel in the Spanish language.  I am beyond thrilled! My dream has been to learn Spanish and now I have the chance to become fluent! :) I cannot believe it.  Many of you may be asking "Why are you serving a mission?". Sometimes I have to ask myself that question as well but I have found a scripture in Alma 43 that basically sums it up. Alma 43: 46  "And they were doing that which they felt was the duty which they owed to their God" Although it is not re...

Alma 36 - A Message of Hope

Every week, I am going to post some of my feelings from what I am currently reading in the Book of Mormon. Whether you are of my faith or not, I truly want you to know my feelings of the truths within this book. It is extremely special to me and I want to be able to share with you the things that I know to be true. To me, Alma 36 is one of the most beautiful chapters within the Book of Mormon. No matter what each one of us may be experiencing in our lives, it is applicable to every stage of our life. Every single one of us makes mistakes. Whether we are making mistakes now or we trying to forgive ourselves for past sins, we can know there is hope for us because of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He did much more than die on a cross for each and every person who has ever lived and will ever live. He took upon Himself our pains, our sins, our afflictions, our trials, and our infirmities. He is the one person who is not only there to support us but actually knows every emotion we are feeling....

Mission Papers are in!

Hello! My name is Kira Webster . I am kind of new to the whole blog thing but I thought what the heck... might as well give it a try.  So let me tell you a little bit about me. I am currently a student at Brigham Young University and it is awesome. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and it has been the biggest blessing in my life! I am so grateful for the knowledge that I am Child of God! Our Heavenly Father truly knows each and every one of us and loves us more than we will ever be able to comprehend. I know this to be true. Also,I love to learn new languages! Therefore, I am currently in Spanish and Italian classes right now. Spanish is my love. I am seriously obsessed with the language, the culture, the food, the people and pretty much everything associated with it!  I love the color purple . I love music. Specifically Taylor Swift and Michael Buble. I have two hermanas and I love them dearly. I am obsessed with water....
